Help us reach more incredible milestones for children and families.
We have a great challenge. But we’re making great progress.
Children, as we all know, are wonderful gifts that bring joy and love into the lives of their families and many others. Despite this, or perhaps because of this, the anxiety and challenges can be overwhelming when they become ill. The families we serve at UNC Children’s know this all too well. But our physicians, researchers, nurses and staff are determined to help these families and our patients meet and overcome the medical challenges they face. Through a combination of empathy and expertise, we provide care for our families that’s centered on the patient and grounded in research and experience. In the past year, we’ve made great progress toward our goal of becoming the Southeast’s leading children’s hospital. N.C. Children’s Hospital, clinical home of UNC Children’s in Chapel Hill, was named by U.S. News & World Report as one of “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” for the eighth consecutive year.

U.S. News & World Report
Only 78 hospitals nationwide were ranked in at least one specialty, and our hospital ranked in seven:
No. 13 PULMONOLOGY
No. 24 ENDOCRINOLOGY AND DIABETES
No. 25 ORTHOPAEDICS
No. 28 CANCER
No. 32 GASTROENTEROLOGY AND GI SURGERY
No. 40 NEONATOLOGY
No. 44 NEPHROLOGY
More important than rankings, though, is that we’ve helped thousands of children across North Carolina and beyond be well. In the pages of this report, you’ll get a glimpse of our excellent care through the eyes of two of our patients and their families. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about what sets us apart – our mission to C.A.R.E.: Caring for children, Advocating for the vulnerable and underserved, advancing treatments and cures through Research, and Educating all levels and types of pediatric health care practitioners. Our mission is an ambitious undertaking and requires ongoing support. But, as you’ll see in individual patient stories and the numbers to back them up, the results are truly inspiring. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about UNC Children’s.
