2016 Fiscal Year
Every day, our physicians work hand in hand with community hospitals and providers across the state to bring the highest-quality care to children. Many of the patients we serve have conditions that cause frequent or long-term hospital stays. Others we may get to see only once.
But for all of our patients – however they arrive and however long their stay – we’re committed to providing comfort while they’re here. And we work tirelessly to have them headed home as soon as possible.
Facts, figures and flights.
Help us reach more incredible milestones for children and families.
Every year, we care for patients from all 100 counties of North Carolina and beyond, always regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
*Average length of stay for N.C. Children’s Hospital excludes patient stays in the Newborn Critical Care Center (NCCC) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Overall average length of stay for the N.C. Children’s Hospital including NCCC and PICU was 8.9 in 2016.

We deliver world-class, family-centered care, especially in some of the most difficult and scary situations for families.
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT VISITS
Not every family lives within driving distance of our hospital. We work with providers to quickly and carefully transfer patients to Chapel Hill to get them the care they need.
Many of our patients are in the hospital for an extended time. Our hospital school teachers helped more than 3,000 students from all over keep up with coursework last year.
